Mark Dickerson, H.B.Sc., D.D.S.  - You Want the Tooth?  You Can't Handle the Tooth!

This talk will cover a brief history of the art of Dentistry with emphasis on wartime advancements. This presentation will show how dentistry has evolved from the world of demons and religion to the quackery of Napoleonic Europe, and finally advanced to its foundation in science during the Great War.  Find out how a modest immigrant dentist became known as the “Miracle Man of the Western Front” and the Canadian Army Dental Corps was described as “a very perfect dental organization”.

Mark Dickerson grew up near Thamesville and spent his childhood searching his parent’s farm for Tecumseh’s bones and artifacts from 1813. While attending the University of Western Ontario, he received his Honours Bachelor of Science in Zoology and joined the Royal Scots of the Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society. Mark went to the Western Reserve University Dental School in Cleveland, Ohio and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1999. Since graduation he has worked in his own private dental office in Wallaceburg, Ontario. He has a beautiful wife Katie and two children, his stepson Charlie, and his daughter Annabella.
