Dinner and Ball

After the Symposium, we are pleased to be invited to join the 41st Military Living History Group at their Annual Spring Gala.

The Dinner and Gala will be a colourful affair featuring guests in uniforms and clothing from the Regency Era.  This event is not restricted to guests wearing period clothing, though.  For people in modern clothing, we suggest modern formal or business attire.

The Ball will consist of Regency style dancing, for those so inclined.  We are pleased to welcome Tom and Toni Tumbusch back to the History Symposium this year as our Dance Master and Mistress.

Tom and Toni Tumbusch are historic dance instructors, performers, and enthusiasts with a repetoire ranging from the Italian Renaissance to the Big Band era.  If you've never danced before, fear not!  Many of the dances Jane Austen enjoyed are easy to learn, and Tom and Toni make it as simple as walking.

Tom has taught English Country to dancers of all ages since 1988, and has written historic dance articles for Activate! magazine, a bi-monthly publication for elementary school music teachers.  Over the years, he has choreographed dance performances for Wright State University, the Ohio Renaissance Festival, and the Greater Dayton region of the Jane Austen Society.

Toni bgan dancing and performing historic styles in 1996, adding English Country Dance to her repetoire in 2004.  A former member of the Forget-Me-Not Historical Dance Company, she has studied with Elizabeth Aldridge, Richard Powers, and Joan Walton.

Tom and Toni have taught together since 2005, hosting English Country, Swing, Lindy Hop, and other historic dance workshops in the Midwestern and Southern United States.  They are founding members of the Cincinnati Historic Dance Society and both serve on the Board of Directors for the Cincinnati English Country Dancers.
